PRISMSTAR An universe for open-source fiction Primary creator: Antaeus Feldspar Conventions for reading this document: Everything that follows is up for discussion and change, by the nature of open source. The elements that are most open to change, or even most in need of change, are followed an asterisk in brackets, like so: [*]. PRISMSTAR THE BASIC PREMISE Ten [*] years ago, humanity was under attack by an evil empire from a dimension next to our own, let in by a human traitor with dreams of power. Thankfully, there were saviors -- Red Point, Blue Point, Black Point, Green Point, and White Point, the heroes of the Prismstar Team. Advised by the mysterious alien Dr. Elenchos [*], who also provided the amazing Star Jets they piloted, they fought the evil invading empire and eventually drove them back, never to return. And then they fell apart. With the loss of an enemy to unite them, and the loss of Black Point, who had died in battle, they gradually fell apart in painful dissension, and ended up going their separate ways, and none of them have ever found since what they had as part of Prismstar. Now, it looks as though there may be a new enemy threatening the peace of Earth again. The heroes of Prismstar must see if they can somehow recapture what made them Earth's defenders. CAST Red Point -- A Japanese man named Kenichi Takada [*], between 29-33 [*], the leader of Prismstar in the "Glory Days", and the only one who is still officially a Prismstar member in the present day. He has spent the years since the break-up trying to recruit the finest individuals from Earth's armed forces to replace the other Star Pilots, but even when these attempts have temporarily created a team calling itself Prismstar, it's been clearly not the real thing, and such attempts have never lasted much over a year. If Kenichi ever unbent enough to indulge in something so frivolous as a bumper sticker, it would probably be the one that reads, "I mustn't be a perfectionist; that would be a character flaw." Kenichi had enormous responsibility thrust upon him from the earliest ages, and he reacted to this pressure by becoming very rigid and rule-following, pushing himself hard and holding himself to near-impossible standards. Intellectually, he realizes that this rigidity is not appropriate for every occasion, and secretly, he was always amazed and delighted when his team members (especially Black Point) would deviate from his rigid orders and seize victory through some plan that he could never have approved. But even knowing this intellectually, he can't seem to change himself. Kenichi is not very forthcoming with his emotions (except disapproval), but during the Glory Days, he quite clearly had feelings for White Point. His intense personality struggles with Black Point were nearly legendary, but underneath it was always mixed with admiration for all that the "Wild Boy" achieved by being so unpredictable. White Point -- A Japanese woman named Jun [*] Misaki [*], around 26-30 [*]. Always very cosmopolitan and sophisticated, Jun is now the hostess of an immensely popular television talk program, and generally leads a life of glamour. This doesn't mean, necessarily, that she's happy... During the Glory Days, Jun was in many ways the heart of the team; it's known that at least Red Point and Black Point were in love with her, and it's very possible that Green and Blue were as well. Well aware of this affection, Jun never discouraged these attentions, but never settled on one of her suitors as they all hoped she would. After Black Point's death in battle, Jun withdrew emotionally, unable to shake her irrational suspicions that managing her affairs better would have somehow prevented the death. Black Point (original) -- Now deceased, Black Point was the famous "Wild Boy" of the team, who took risks no one else on the team would take and often brought back victory. Uncontrolled, unpredictable, the "Wild Boy" became a posthumous icon for rebellious teenagers, many of whom missed the point that Wild Boy's death in battle occurred because he was fighting for something greater than himself. Black Point (new) -- (something) [*] Castile, an American who was recruited for Prismstar after serving with high honors in both American and UN armed services. Originally being groomed as a new Green Point, Castile rejected the whole process, telling Red Point that the attempt to replace the original Star Pilots was failing because Red Point was picking only those pilots who would never question his authority, and walked out, only to become Black Point later. Castile is not as wild as the famous "Wild Boy", but he is a risk-taker; he actually holds the record for most flights survived in the Interceptors, which were a disastrous attempt by the UN to build crafts that duplicated the alien technology of the Star Jets. He is also not as rebellious as the original "Wild Boy", but all through his military career, his high honors were punctuated with incidents where he caused trouble by refusing to bow to authority when authority was clearly wrong. Blue Point -- Johann [*] something [*]. During the Glory Days, the team's technological wizard. Highly intelligent, and quite gregarious, Blue Point's habit of remaining quiet tended to mask his keen observation, which he could sometimes put to good use with a single well-timed dry comment. Unfortunately, this led to trouble when Blue Point published his honest -- many said, brutally honest -- account of life inside Prismstar; by his own lights, he had only told the truth as he saw it, both the good and the bad, but his team-mates felt that he had aired troubles that should have remained private to the world. Blue Point has mostly retired to private life by now, his post-Glory Days association with Green Point having been one of the casualties of the book. Green Point -- The only member of the original team besides Red Point who continues "heroing", Green Point originally partnered with Blue Point after the break-up of Prismstar. Their teamwork was quite successful for a time, with Green Point providing some dramatic and much-needed rescues with vehicles and equipment created by Blue Point's technological genius. After the publication of Blue Point's memoir, however, this association fell apart. Green Point still uses the equipment provided by Blue Point despite the fact that the two no longer speak to each other. Green Point does his rescue work under a name that makes it clear that he no longer considers himself a member of Prismstar. Green Point is not actually stupid, but compared to his teammates, he appears... uncomplex. He tends to form simple opinions and loyalties, and once he forms them, he holds them strongly. Part of why his relationship with Blue Point fractured when Blue's book came out was that he'd been working so closely with Blue and yet had no idea that Blue's feelings about all of them, including himself, were so mixed. Dr. Elenchos [*] -- The mysterious alien who provided the Star Jets, Dr. Elenchos comes from the alternate dimension from which the attempted invasion came, and apparently disappeared when the "antenna" that was holding open a gate between the worlds was finally destroyed. Dr. Elenchos was never seen in any physical form, and claimed to actually be a being of pure energy. EQUIPMENT The Star Jets -- These sleek, arrow-head-shaped jets are each the color of the pilot's uniforms; they possess not only great speed and manueverability, but they also have a strange teleportation ability, still not fully understood by Earth scientists. They can teleport while in flight, or, if they stand still (they have a "hovering" mode), they can teleport the wearer of the Point uniform to any spot within a certain radius of the Jet. The Jets have sophisticated auto-combat systems which means that, even unpiloted, they can perform incredible feats of evasion. This, along with their ability to teleport the pilots, means that quite often a mission would involve teleporting the pilots aboard one of the enemy's floating bases, where they would infiltrate, defeat enemy soldiers in combat, then sabotage the base, perhaps rescue prisoners, and make their escape when the Jets returned for them and teleported them back aboard. The greatest power of the Jets demonstrated so far is the Constellation [*], where all five Jets join at the bases to form a five-pointed star; this star formation then spins at incredible speed, and is nearly impervious to damage while in this formation.
